normally i wouldn't mind some johnny cash, except when a neighbor is blasting it at 5 in the morning.
the guy downstairs from wendi started blasting music at about 5am. i approximate 5am because i actually got up and checked the clock at like 5:30. i'm usually dead asleep at that hour, so, i'm guessing it'd been going on for a long time.
about 15 minutes later i go downstairs and knock on his door. he opens the door and i see there's another guy in there who i heard him talking with. anyway he's holding an alcoholic beverage and looks really scruffy. he shakes my hand apologetically and says "oh i'm sorry.. the fires.. we've been working 16-hour weeks.. i'm sorry." i probably mishead, and he said 60-hour weeks instead of 16. was he a firefighter?? even then it's no excuse to be inconsiderate. whatever. i didn't know what to say to that, so i just left. i can still hear the music though. wtf.
i washed my hands, checked my work email, and now i'm feeling sleepy again.. but i can still hear the music. i think i'm just too tired to be pissed.
hmm.. the clock on my drupal is wrong, it's showing that i posted this at 5:29. it should be 6:29. anyway the music is now louder than it was after i knocked on his door, and i can hear some karaoke action happening. suddenly i'm reminded of the shoryuken forum rankings. if people rate your posts down enough, the forum automatically ranks you with status ranking blurbs like "asshole_neighbor is at strike 1", "asshole_neighbor is at strike 2", etc. this guy is now at "asshole_neighbor needs to go die in a fire." makes some sense for me to be reminded of that, cuz he's a firefighter (supposedly).
after seeing her as the wife of incompetent president guy on 24, it's a nice change to see her on a funny show.
christina applegate, brian from what about brian.. and some other familiar looking people.
there was a firestorm in san diego about 1 week shy of 4 years ago today. i remember that the atmosphere was just so hazy and orange. with the firestorms now, it's again pretty hazy, but it's not as orange. here are some pics for comparison.
btw, if you're trying to take pics of the atmosphere and they're turning out "normal" looking, as if it were just any other day, be sure to set the white balance on your camera to the "sunny" or "cloudy" setting, instead of auto white balance. if you set it to auto white balance, the camera will think that there's just some weird reddish lighting, and will automatically compensate for it.
these pics are from 2003-10-28. they show how dramatically orangey everything was:

sun shining through the haze...

this shot pretty much sums up what it was like outside during the daytime.

a picture from inside to show just how orange it was outside
the following pics are from 2007-10-21 to 2007-10-22.

sunset in vista. i actually took these pics before i even knew there was a fire at all. i just thought it was pretty.

ash, by our front door and on the cars in the parking lot of our complex.

sunset from nobel athletic park
so, not as orange this year.
.. maybe. actually there are 3 shows that i initially thought were good, but now that i've seen more of them, they're just mundane and typical and weak. the 3 shows are cavemen, carpoolers, and big shots.
still good: californication.
for all you akuma players out there (aka kyle), here's a really good guide to akuma in 3s.
capcom announced street fighter 4. not sure how there could be anything better than 3s, but we'll see.
aliens in america is a new show on the CW, mondays at 8:30. i like it so far. stupid american high schoolers vs. muslim pakistani. the mom is the hot mom's sister from rodney, and the dad is the one cafe owner guy from gilmore girls.. although he was a different guy in the pilot screener.. weird.
i think the ratings are kinda low for this show because either people really don't think it's a good show, or because a bunch of teenagers who don't like seeing how stupid they are on tv are rating the show down.
teacher: "class, we have a special guest. we are in the presence of a real, live pakistani, who practices muslimism (sic). so, let's begin a dialogue. raja, you are so different from us. how does that feel?"
raja: ".......... i am not sure i understand."
teacher: "mmhmm.. well you think about it. how does everyone else feel about raja and his differences? yes, stephanie?"
stephanie: "well, i guess i feel angry, cuz his people blew up the buildings in new york."
teacher: "oh, that's good!"
stephanie: [smiles contentedly]
raja: "but, that is not true."
teacher: "ok, raja, in america, you have to wait until you're called on, and i'd appreciate a raised hand. ok, now, who else is angry at raja?"
[entire class raises hands]
i just discovered chatzilla, an irc client that is an extension to firefox. sweet! firefox is basically another operating system. anyway, i'd previously been using mIRC for several years.. but i keep getting these "software caused connection abort" or "connection reset by peer" errors, and i think it has to do with the winxp firewall (i recently made the jump from 2k), even though i've made mIRC an exception. when i logged on with chatzilla, windows firewall asked me if i wanted to unblock, so i did.. and i haven't had a single connection reset problem (hopefully it stays that way). plus it's just easy to use, a bit more intuitive than mIRC, and very clean. only downsides so far are no resuming dcc
another exciting thing is desktop tower defense, which i just wrote about.
last but not least: new jimmy eat world, new thrice, and new promo only modern rock.
i am like mildly obsessed with this game: desktop tower defense. it's all about strategerizing with what you've got...
