more tv watching

it's the long weekend, and i'm a boring person, so i am watching lots of tv. (it always turns out that i'll remember that i wanted to do something over a long weekend, but only as i'm heading back to la jolla)

anyway, i watched man vs. wild for the first time, and it's pretty good.. but i just wonder how the logistics work. cuz he's doing all this crazy stuff, but, he's got a camera crew with him, and i wonder how they work together. the camera crew makes me wonder whether it's rigged, although i kinda doubt it. watch the show, it's good.

speaking of rigged though.. i am watching take home chef right now, and that definitely seems rigged. and it's kinda funny how the dude only approaches women.. especially since he's kinda like the handsome cute type or whatever, with an australian accent and everything.

oh, and worst commercials ever: the kia commercials where the guy successfully completes a presentation during a business meeting, and one of his coworkers is way too enthusiastic about congratulating him.. it's.. so lame.

residensea

just saw a show on the travel channel about a "floating city".. check out the apartments that you can rent/buy.

randomly found this akuma tutorial vid on youtube.. and it's actually got some good info..

working

when your life is in a general state of "working", it seems easier to do things that you need to do, like chores or projects or whatever. the expression "get the ball rolling" is really true.

i'm not sure why this is. i think a big part of it is that you don't really get caught up in all the thinking that you have to do something. instead, it's just "another thing" you need to do. cuz you're already doing stuff. your person is in a state of working already. slowing down and taking a break, then revving up again on something else, seems to take a toll on motivation or something. when you realize in your mind, "i should probably do that", you don't waste any cycles between one task and another.

another thing i realized, and it might relate to what i just said, is that you shouldn't be afraid or resentful of the possibility of having to do more work in the future. i may have talked about this before, but attitude is probably the biggest gate that you have to pass when it comes to realizing that you have more work to do. there's a lot of things that can affect your attitude, but the two biggest factors are (1) how tired you are, and (2) how much time you have.

the first one is kinda easy to deal with.. just get some rest (literally, sleep). when you wake, you will probably have a better attitude about having to do the work. you may realize that it's not as bad as you thought. a lot of times i have the attitude that i simply have a finite amount of energy that can be used on any one project.. but, after sleep, i don't really think that way. of course, after time and energy have been invested in something, i hope for a return, but that's a different story.

the second one can either be really easy to deal with, or very difficult / totally out of your control. basically, when you have no time pressures, it's easy. just start working on the project at your leisure, and keep working on it over time. this means that you need to realize what projects around you need to be worked on. pick up a project, or a few, and, after a long period, you will have invested considerable time, thought, and effort into the project. without sounding too specific or limiting, it's essentially "doing something without being told". for some reason, it makes things a whole lot easier. i guess it's because there's no expectations or outside pressures. when you DO have time limitations, then you have to spend effort in working out how to do everything very efficiently. therein lies the difficulty, and it's yet another different story.

alright, that's all i have to say about that for now.

another good song

there's only a 30-second preview of this on imeem, otherwise i'd post it here.

traffic insights

on the way to work today, i learned something about traffic jams, and that is: they are caused by selfish drivers. any time you're sitting in traffic, wondering, "who was the first person to actually come to a complete stop here?".. wonder no more. it was a selfish driver.

the way i gathered this was when i was making a left turn from miramar road onto eastgate mall. there are two left-turn pockets, and i was in the far-left one, the inside one. there was a car in front of me (i am trying not to say "a guy" or "a lady" now, because both genders are able to suck horribly at driving, although in this case, it was a woman), but for some reason, it had its right-turn blinker on. i figured, well maybe they left it on, accidentally.. although, i wasn't sure how feasible that was, considering that she probably had to signal left to actually get into the left-turn pocket, not to mention the inside one. whatever.

so the light turns green, and we're making the left turn. i found it to be mildly amusing that her right-turn blinker was on, but i figured that it'd turn off anyway after the left turn. except, it doesn't. immediately after she completes her turn and is out of the intersection, she comes to a complete stop, because she, in fact, wanted to make a right turn into the 76 gas station, from the far left lane. it was somewhat of a sight to behold. nevermind that i was still in the intersection, along with the 3 or 4 cars behind me, and that there were cars in the outside left-turn lane who were driving past. i was like holy shit, is this really happening? i honked at her because hey, what the fuck are you doing, coming to a complete stop here? can't you maybe drive up a bit further, then turn around and come back to the gas station? are u really that selfish? she really brought new meaning to "thinks they own the road." do you reeeeeeaaalllly have to hold up traffic, violating traffic laws and good practices in driving, pissing people off, just so you can get gas?

i want to emphasize that she was literally stopped.. not even like inching forward a little, indicating that she was waiting for something in front of her. she was waiting for traffic on her right to clear, which is already fucked. but she actually came to a complete stop, and may as well have put her car in park.

i think i've said before already, that if you make a mistake while driving, like getting into the wrong turn lane, or turning onto the wrong street... suck it up, don't interfere the rest of the world.. drive with the rest of traffic until it's a good time to turn around, then come back. i feel like such a driving nazi or something, augh.

You get more amused by HOW a person says something as opposed to WHAT the person says.
