some shows

couple shows i am enjoying now:

californication, mondays at 10:30pm on showtime. info/ratings on tv.com. i haven't heard many people talk about this show, for some reason. i'm almost hesitant to even mention it, because it seems like every good, non-popular show that i think is genius gets canceled. anyway, i'm not sure how to describe the show. it's like.. situational drama, or something. the writing is funny. david duchovny is awesome. there's a song on the show that is used during scenes of tomfoolery that is stuck in my head right now.

psych, fridays at 10pm on usa (not sure about the time, actually). info/ratings on tv.com. this show just makes me happy. it is fun to watch. i think it's fairly popular, which is good for the show at this point.

ok now for some shows that have given me a good impression:

cavemen
chuck
tell me you love me
big bang theory
back to you
burn notice
the sarah connor chronicles

and now for shows that have given me a bad impression:

life
reaper
saving grace
panekiller jane
anchorwoman
pushing daisies

easy, cheap, fast, nutritious, delicious

stuff you'll need:

- (leftover) rice (one serving size)
- tofu (one serving size)
- soy sauce
- salt
- green onions
- garlic
- olive oil
- sesame oil (optional, but strongly recommended)

1. chop up the green onions and garlic and saute them together with salt in olive oil. set aside.
2. in bowl, microwave tofu and rice together (tofu on top of rice) until heated through.
3. pour soy sauce (and sesame oil) over the tofu.
4. spoon the garlic and green onions over the tofu.

have some additional veg or fruit to make it a more complete meal.

you can just make a lot of rice and the green onion / garlic mixture for leftovers, so that when you want to make the dish, all you'd need to do is cut up your tofu, put everything into a bowl, and microwave. simple and fast, delicious and nutritious. and each serving probably costs about a dollar:

tofu = $0.50
green onions + garlic = $0.20
soy sauce, rice, salt, oil = cheap, let's just say $0.30.
that's $1.00
with sesame oil it's a little more, cuz that stuff is not cheap.

nobel park, after the rain

you know what the best weather is? when it's sunny after it rains.. and if it's near sunset time, then it's even better.

it was about 6 and i was driving east on nobel, about to get onto the 805 cuz i needed some soy sauce from ranch 99, when i looked to my left and saw the sun low in the sky, shining over the city, tall trees casting long shadows.. and the post-rain pink clouds, and the freshness of the atmosphere after the rain.. it just made me want to stop the car and take it all in. it sounds weird since it's not like a pretty landscape, or tropical beach, or whatever.. but i guess it's as nice as a suburban place can get.

so i make a u-turn (one that kyle didn't notice was even there when we passed it on the way to see good luck chuck last night) and turn at biogen idec. i just wanted to park the car and get out for a bit, but i couldn't park along the street, so i drove down, turned into the biogen idec entrance, when i noticed that across the street was an entrance for the nobel park, which was just newly constructed or whatever. i drive in, and already i'm like driving slowly cuz you have a pretty good view of the park from the entrance, and it was nice.

nice park + nice weather = nice.

i parked, walked around, and took pics:

i think you're fat

this article is about radical honesty. it's an interesting read, but a bit too heavy on the shock and weak on the purpose/goal of doing it (he only talks about it briefly on like the 3rd or 4th page).

being positive and productive

ok, despite what the title sounds like, this entry isn't about pulling inspiration out of the air. it's about being positive and productive specfically in situations where it's natural to let yourself get bogged down by doubts.

i am pulling this from a list of thoughts that i update every so often, whenever i feel that i've stumbled upon an attitude or perspective that seems right, in a moment of clarity or something. so i'm just going to copy-paste what the list entry is:

"don't let spilt milk get you down, and don't take things personally. you can always think positive. put yourself in your situation objectively, and think about what productive and positive steps you can take now."

the note about the "don't take things personally" is relevant because it can be a source of doubt. anyway, so to be clear, i'm not promoting ignoring your feelings, or whatever. i'm saying that you should realize when you're in a situation where your naturally-occurring thoughts are not getting you anywhere, and that they could be unfounded or sending you further into some downward spiral. it's easy to get caught up in that, and to just let time pass by in the most unproductive manner.

the best seat on a plane

seatguru.com makes me want to fly somewhere, just to see whether the seats they claim are good really ARE good. pick an airline, then pick the aircraft model. mouse over a seat and it'll tell you why it's good/bad/neutral. only thing is that it doesn't seem to take engine noise into consideration, as i'm noticing so far that all the good seats are exit-row seats, which are right in the middle of the plane where the wings/engines are.

tom cat bar

tonight i went to a dive bar called tom cat bar, in mira mesa, in the big lots plaza. i didn't drink anything.. just hung out with wendi and her coworkers. it was ok. thankfully there was pool.. and the pool system was very much like an arcade, where you put up your quarter to call next game.. only here, you write your name on a whiteboard. it's 75 cents to play, and if you win, the next person pays the 75 cents. so if you're good, you could just pay 75 cents once and play a bunch of people. i liked that.. just like playing random people in 3s at the arcade.
